Issue Campaign
WHS Athletic Field
Putting the ball in the hoop
It has been a bit of a marathon, but our campaign to revitalize Washington High School's track and playing field has crossed the finish line! Common Ground has raised $830,300 for this catalytic project, and partnered with MPS and MPS Foundation for a $2.5 million investment in an artificial turf field, a rubberized 400-meter track and basketball half-courts.
Common Ground was proud to be an instrumental player in Washington High School’s new athletic field. Building on our successful foreclosure recovery campaign in the Sherman Park neighborhood and WHS’s great programs and rich history, we brought to light the need to revitalize this outdoor space which is so central to the lives of the students and the residents. We drove the campaign forward by building a team, a collective vision and a public-private fundraising strategy. We worked with Sherman Park residents, MPS, the MPS Foundation, Washington High School staff, alumni and students.
It took thousands of hours, hundreds of people, numerous meetings and over seven years of persistence, but together, we made it happen. Now WHS students and their Sherman Park neighbors will have a place to meet, compete, exercise and play.
