SOUTH SIDE

Building Southside power to ensure safe and comfortable communities

the problem

Drug houses. Gunshots. Muggings. When we asked 1,057 of our Southside members about their biggest concern, the #1 answer was crime. People don’t feel safe. Families are forced to move. Kids are told to stay indoors. It affects us all, and it shakes our communities – from schools, to hospitals, to small businesses, to parks. The Southside of Milwaukee should be a place where people feel safe to live, gather, play, worship, learn, and more. We are determined to make it that way.

WHAT WE’VE DONE

“Southside institutions are uniting to research and tackle this problem. We’re identifying drug houses, nuisance properties, and crime hot spots. We’re pulling police records, investigating property owners and coordinating with public officials. We’re working to improve the relationship between the community and police, so people feel comfortable and confident to call the police when crimes occur. And preventatively, we are studying why crime happens in the first place: We need good jobs, diverse afterschool activities for youth and for companies to treat people right. We went public with our campaign in October 2025, with 847 people at Serb Hall. We announced this problem. Soon we will announce our solutions.”
We need to shut down drug houses. Ensure nuisance properties are dealt with. Hold property owners accountable. Improve trust and communication between the community and police. And ensure our community’s needs are being met on the front end.

The Solution

In April 2026–after months of deep listening, meetings with experts, and careful research—the South Side team outline 5 initial strategies to improve.
