GET OUT THE VOTE, 2024
Deep into our campaign to reform public housing, tenant leaders grew increasingly frustrated that elected officials were not taking their concerns seriously. So we crafted a plan for tenant leaders and CG leaders to canvass all HACM residents in the three months leading up to the November election.
We knocked on 4,689 of the 5,000 HACM units and had 1,421 conversations. Over 382 CG leaders witnessed firsthand the conditions in public housing and heard directly from residents. The GOTV campaign helped us build relationships, identify potential new leaders and new issues and helped keep up the pressure for reform with calls to the Department of Neighborhood Services.
We also ran a robust election day operation at 10 Housing Authority polling sites, helping those who were turned away from the polls, asking voters to text reminders to others, and helping get HACM residents to the polls.
2022 MAYORAL FORUM
In Milwaukee’s historic Mayoral race in 2022, we put the candidates in front of 1,007 CG leaders and asked them to endorse our agenda.
GET OUT THE VOTE, 2020
During the pandemic, we ran an ambitious, 5-month nonpartisan GOTV campaign for the November 2020 presidential election. We did this strategically in neighborhoods around CG member congregations where we planned to continue neighborhood organizing efforts.
We figured out how to have safe face-to-face conversations on people’s front porches wearing “PPE” and were one of the only groups providing in-person encouragement and assistance. We saved hundreds of votes by partnering with the Milwaukee Election Commission to help voters “cure” their absentee ballots by signing or completing missing information. We partnered with the Milwaukee Bucks to engage voters. And we saved hundreds of votes on Election Day with our Poll Protection operations at seven polling sites. Some 727 CG Leaders spent over 3,506 hours in the campaign, and we turned out 17,817 people to vote.

In the face of threatening billboards and other outlandish voter suppression tactics, we trained and organized our leaders to support and assist voters at Northside polling sites on election day, November 2012.
GET OUT THE VOTE, SPRING 2012
We conducted a voter turnout campaign in a few selected neighborhoods to test our turnout abilities. We reached 7,000 potential voters. We also held neighborhood forums with several aldermanic candidates. This led to relationships with a number of Milwaukee Common Council members.
