After two years of pressure from Common Ground, the City of Milwaukee joined the national Gun Safety Consortium (GSC), paying $10,000 in dues. The Consortium brings together a nationwide coalition of local governments to increase research and development of user-authenticated firearms and gun locks, which make a gun or lock inoperable except for the persons authorized to use it.
The goal is to create, develop, test and promote security products that law-abiding gun owners will use. The GSC is organizing law enforcement to test the latest security products. Milwaukee police officers are currently evaluating these new products and giving valuable feedback to the developers.
