COMMON GROUND

our
core beliefs

We believe that all people must be treated with dignity, honor and respect.

We’re confronting intimidation and harassment wherever they arise, working daily to broaden and deepen power in disenfranchised communities.

We believe that everyone deserves a voice in our democracy.

We are rebuilding the civic sector by strengthening our institutions and investing in leadership development, so they are as powerful as possible.

We believe in public, face-to-face relationships.

Developing public relationships and meeting in person are essential to a thriving society. We commit to building trust first, which is the starting point for transforming ourselves, our communities and the world.

We believe we are stronger standing together.

We organize across lines of race, class, faith, gender, political ideology, sexual orientation, age, and beyond – because shared power is lasting power. We’re smarter, braver and more effective when we stand together.

We believe in the power of collective action.

When we work together, we can change our communities and country for the better. We face challenges with creativity and shared purpose – solving problems as a united force.

how
we work

We are everyday people building power.

We learn what’s important to those in our community.

We attract people who want to act and learn the skills of effective public action.

We pinpoint opportunities for change and define what success looks like.

Together we become experts and explore viable solutions.

We take strategic action to create change.

We measure our successes, seek opportunities for growth and follow through.

We evaluate

our
success

We’ve been successfully taking on and winning issues, both big and small, since 2008.

From getting stop signs installed, to getting $33.8 million from big banks to repair the harm caused by predatory lending, to getting new leadership at the Housing Authority.
We never give up, we never relent.

Common Ground is a proud member of The Just Power Alliance, a collective of organizations from the midwest and the east coast, fighting for social justice and creating change through bold, relational, joyful, collective action.

"As members of Common Ground, we are able to act on our faith, live out our mission, and assist in creating tangible changes in our community on a much bigger scale than we could as one church acting alone -- and our congregation and community are stronger for it!"

The Reverend Dr. Donna Childs, Pastor, Tabernacle Community Baptist Church
